    The Hermann Gallasch photograph collection consists of 11 photographs of Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria at the time of liberation in May 1945. The photographs were taken by Hermann Gallasch or a fellow soldier in the Eleventh Armored Division of the United States Army.

    The Irving Bachove photograph collection consists of two photographs of Buchenwald concentration camp at the time of liberation, April 1945. One photograph shows three survivros of Buchenwald sitting on a bench. The second photograph shows a victim of the Buchenwald camp. The name of the photographer is unknown.

    The collection consists of pre-war photographs depicting the Sussmann family of Alsbach-Hähnlein, Germany. Included are depictions of Ludwig Friedrich Sussmann in as a soldier in the German Army during World War I, and several family photographs from 1933-1938. Family members identified include: Ludwig Sussmann, Alfred, Sussmann, Emma Sussmann Weiss, Johanna Sussmann, Siegfried and Lilli Sussmann, Stephen Sussmann and Heinz Sussman. Also included is a depiction of the family home in Alsbach-Hähnlein.

    The papers consists of six photographs taken by an American soldier named "Ray" at the V-bomb factory at Nordhausen; a pocket calendar issued to German soldiers; a document issued by Lieutenant General Omar Bradley outlining seven guidelines for dealing with the German people; and a booklet entitled "Pocket Guide to Germany" prepared by the United States Army Information Branch.

    The collection consists of 33 black-and-white photographs depicting the German invasion, persecution, and destruction of Poland, circa 1939-1943. Captions in Polish are handwritten on the bottom of the photographs.

  12. Maria Ryder papers

    The Maria Ryder papers consist of two letters from Maria Piatek (later Maria Ryder) in Ravensbrück concentration camp and one letter addressed to Maria Piatek on a pre-printed form entitled "Kriegsgefangengenpost" (prisoner of war mail). The letters were written while Maria Piatek, number 11287, was imprisoned in Ravensbrück concentration camp blocks 16 and 17. The letters also include censor stamps.

  13. Glaser family papers

    The papers consist of a Kennkarte issued to Gerhard Ludwig Israel Glaser and a passport (Reisepass) stamped with a red "J", identification card, and customs notice issued to his sister, Gisela Sara Glaser. Several of the documents were issued in Berlin, Germany.

    The envelope is addressed to Frau Netti Löffel, Wien XX, Dnisgasse 46/37 from Marcus Rubin Löffel, Block 16, Section 1, of the Dachau concentration camp. The envelope is cancelled February 3, 1939. Marcus Löffel is listed as being born on January 24, 1900.

    The provisional identification card for civilian internee of Mauthausen #1104 was issued to Aladar Lakner on July 5, 1945, in Linz, Austria.

  16. Avraham Gruber certificate of adoption

    Consists of one "certificate of adoption" is for Avraham Gruber, a child survivor from Poland living in a Vaad Hahatzala refugee home in France after World War II. The certificate, issued by Rescue Children, Inc. in New York, N.Y., acknowledges the support of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Bunim in Gruber's care.

    The collection documents the wartime experiences of Hermann Zutraum and his family, who survived the Holocaust in Ankara, Turkey. Included is a Red Cross inquiry from Hilde Strassburger to Martha Pick, Hermann’s wife Alice Murzynski’s aunt; a postcard sent to Martin Gabrielski in Berlin, Germany, from Hermann Zutraun in Ankara; and an envelope sent to Hermann’s aunt Else Zutraun in Berlin from Ankara.

    The envelope was sent from Else Singer of Vienna, Austria, to Dr. Ladislaus Fessler of White Plains, N.Y. It bears several "Deutsches Reich" stamps, tape printed with "Geöffnet" and a Nazi emblem, and tape printed with "Opened By Examiner 4981."
