    The Roza Krzesiwo photographs consist of six images depicting Roza’s brothers Izak, Meir, and Filip Stoleru in Bucharest in 1944; her husband (Zucher Ber Krzesiwo) in the “Progres” Jewish tailoring cooperative in 1946 and at a Communist Party event in 1950 in Bytom (Poland); his uncle Eli Krzesiwo in 1938 in Działoszyce (Poland) and his friend Josef Szlam in 1945 in Poland; and a Bund youth demonstration in 1946 in Katowice (Poland).

  5. Łódź (Litzmannstadt) ghetto scrip, 5 mark coin

    5 mark coin issued in the Łódź ghetto in Poland in 1943. Nazi Germany occupied Poland on September 1, 1940; Łódź was renamed Litzmannstadt and annexed to the German Reich. In February, the Germans forcibly relocated the large Jewish population into a sealed ghetto. All currency was confiscated in exchange for Quittungen [receipts] that could be exchanged only in the ghetto. The scrip and tokens were designed by the Judenrat [Jewish Council] and includes traditional Jewish symbols.     Photocopy of a register of Jewish citizens located in Berlin, Germany, in 1947 that was copied by John Finke in Chicago in 2000. John (then Hans) was a concentration camp survivor who became an aid worker after the war. Hans, his parents and his sister Ursula lived in Berlin during the rise of the Nazi dictatorship in 1933 with its aggressive anti-Jewish policies. Jews were forced out of their jobs and their businesses were confiscated.
