  1. Sally Suss papers

    The papers consist of five postcards written to Sara Nudelman (later Sally Suss) in Hansdorf (Ławice), Poland, from various friends and family members in Sosnowiec, Poland, and two photographs of a Jewish school class in Sosnowitz in 1939.

  2. Stamer family photograph collection

    The Stamer family photograph collection consists of one photograph, a silverprint, of Frieda Stamer and her family taken in Austria by studio photographer, Josef Kalina, circa 1900-1910. A second photograph shows the same five Stamer girls, taken in Austria, circa 1930s. The photographs were sent to Morris Stamer, Frieda Stamer’s grandson, in the United States. All people depicted in the photographs perished in the Holocaust.

  3. Estelle Bechoefer collection

    The collection consists of an album containing photographs of Nazi Party meetings and training camps which was given as a Christmas present from Heinrich Himmler to Franz Xaver Schwarz in 1935 and a newspaper article from the "Washington Evening Star" of August 30, 1945, titled "D.C. Attorney Gathers Records on Nazi Seizures from Jews." Dedication in photograph album reads: "Reichsschatzmeister, SS Obergruppenführer / Franz X. Schwarz / userem treuesten Freund / von der SS zu Weinachten 1935 / H. Himmler."

  4. Herbert Kaplan papers

    The papers consist of 14 packets of photographs taken of the executions of Hungarian fascist collaborators conducted after the liberation of Hungary. Identifications in Hungarian are written on the bottom of each packet. The film was developed by Filmfabrik Agfa, VEB.

  5. American soldiers and civilians looking at corpses at Buchenwald

    The photograph depicts a pile of emaciated dead bodies piled onto a truck with American soldiers and civilians standing around the truck. The photograph was taken at the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp in 1945. Caption on the verso: "Buchenwald; Jews are in cart / Sent by: Mrs. Leo M. Levens; Given by: Lt.C. Leo M. Levens 0344525 / Please print copies + distribute where it would do the most good. Thank you. Mollie Levens."

  6. James Baker photograph collection

    The collection consists of photographs depicting Nordhausen concentration camp at liberation in 1945. Handwritten captions in English are on verso.

    Consist of issue no. 4 of "The Resistance," published in New York City, with an article entitled "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite: Fighting France and the Jewish Problem."

  8. Lynn Hammer photograph collection

    The collection consists of an identification photograph of Gedalia Dawidowicz (Alex David) and three other photographs of Dawidowicz and unidentified family members. Captions in Polish and Hebrew on the verso.

  9. Munn Nigro photograph collection

    The Munn Nigro photograph collection consists of nine photographs of corpses from the massacre at Gardelegen, Germany taken by Munn Nigro, April 1945. Many of the photographs depict German citizens from surrounding villages burying the dead in mass graves supervised by American soldiers. Captions in English stamped on the verso.

  10. Elsie Lydon photograph collection

    The Elsie Lydon photograph collection consists of photographs of Buchenwald concentration camp after liberation and photographs of captured German airplanes, circa 1945.

  11. Henrietta Kurtzig identification card

    The Kennkarte was issued to Henrietta Sara Kurtzig (b. Henrietta Jetka Englander; donor's grandmother) from the chief of police in Berlin, Germany. A stamped "J" on front cover indicates that the holder was Jewish.

  12. Gijsbertus Nicholaas Van der Bijl papers

    The Gijsbertus Nicholaas Van der Bijl papers consists of a permission card for bathing, 1944; a displaced persons identification card issued by the Allied Expeditionary Force for "Nich. V.D. Byl." [Gijsbertus Nicholaas Van der Bijl], undated; a photograph of Gijsbertus Van der Bijl at age 24, 1938; and two studio portraits of Van der Bijl as a child, August 2, 1926 and 1932.

    The papers consist of a letter written on June 27, 1941, by Lonia (nee Russlander) Ozarow of Warsaw, Poland, to her brother, Leon Russlander, in Washington, D.C. and the envelope in which the letter was mailed.

    The collection consists of photographs depicting three men preparing to place a corpse into the crematorium at the Dachau concentration camp.

    The Anita Heller papers consists of an admission pass to services at the Jewish Congregation in Shanghai, China; a Foreigner's Resident Certificate issued to Walter Kempinsky in Shanghai; two Reisepass (passports) for Walter and Erna Kempinsky; a schedule for the High Holy Days services at the Jewish Congregation in Shanghai; two Alien Head Tax receipts for American President Lines; two receipts for passport fees; and a letter from the Jewish Council for Social Services (Jüdische Arbeiterfürgorge Wanderfürsorge) regarding Walter Kempinsky to the Staatspolizei in Breslau, Germany (now Wro...

  16. Maksymilian Wolfsthal collection

    Consists of a memoir by Maksymilian Wolfsthal about his experiences in the ghetto in Lʹvov, Poland (now Lʹviv, Ukraine) and in Janowska, his deportation to Bergen-Belsen in 1943, and life in Bergen-Belsen. He began the diaries on October 3, 1945 after his emigration to Belgium. The memoir is in two volumes, with volume one covering June 21, 1941--September 1942, and volume two covering October 1942 until his liberation from Bergen-Belsen.

  17. Edda Treforest photograph collection

    The Edda Treforest photograph collection consists of photographs depicting nurses treating patients at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp after liberation, the canteen that Samuel Treforest opened at Bergen-Belsen after World War II, and Edda Treforest as a young woman. The photographs were likely taken by Samuel Treforest.

  18. Albert Rapp postcard

    The postcard was written by Albert Rapp in Buchenwald concentration camp to his wife, Matilde Rapp, in Frankfurt, Germany. In the postcard, he asks his wife not to worry and assures her that he is fine. He asks her to send him a package containing stockings, handkerchiefs, an undershirt, a jacket, a piece of soap, a toothbrush, and various other supplies for himself and his brother, Arthur, who was also incarcerated. Last, he asks for information regarding their dealings with the United States consulate in Stuttgart, Germany.

    One photocopy of a certificate from General Eisenhower commending Lucien Toiron for assisting the escape of American soldiers during World War II.

  20. Danielle Salley papers

    The papers consist of a map of southern France, a photocopy of the "Etat-Major" map showing the route used by refugees to flee into Spain, newspaper clippings, a postcard of a painting ("La Defense du Col de Banyuls") showing typical "Banyulese" costume, a circulation permit dated 1939 allowing an individual to work, and a declaration of the wine production of M. Ferrer Sauveur's grape harvest.
