    Die Sammlung umfasst Unterlagen (Kopien amtlicher Dokumente, Fotos, Briefe, Zeitungsartikel, autobiographische Texte) über die Beteiligung von Österreichern am Spanischen Bürgerkrieg. Waren zu Beginn der Tätigkeit Dokumente von nur rund 50 ehemaligen Spanienkämpfern in den allgemeinen Beständen des DÖW vorhanden, umfasst die Spanien-Dokumentation nun Quellenmaterial über mehr als 1.000 Österreicher im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg. Rund 400 Personen sind nur über Hinweise erfasst. Die Sammlung wird durch die Spezialbibliothek "Spanischer Bürgerkrieg" ergänzt.
