  4. Declaration of condemnation of genocide and antisemitism by the Republic of Latvia's Highest Council

    Contains of a photocopy of an English translation of a declaration by Latvia's "Highest Council" dated September 19, 1990. The declaration concerns the condemnation of genocidal acts by Hitler and the Nazis, an acknowledgement of the importance of Jews to the Latvian culture in the past, and Latvia's intolerance of acts of antisemitism and discrimination in the future.

  5. Israel Fischer and Lajos Spitz letters

    Contains photograph duplicates of six letters by Israel Fischer and Lajos Spitz. Magda Spitz Bergstein, a citizen of the United States, was the recipient of the letters. They contain pleas for help by Fischer and Spitz in their attempts to flee Hungary during the Holocaust.

  6. Featured documents from an exhibition at the Staatarchiv Potsdam in 1988 and 1989 to commemorate the November 1938 pogrom (Kristallnacht)

    Contains photocopies of documents featured during a memorial exhibit 1988-1989 relating to Kristallnacht produced by the Staatsarchiv Potsdam. The documents contain information about pogroms, persecution of Jewish business owners, arrests of Jewish merchants, destruction of synagogues, and the shutdown of Jewish-owned factories. Of special interest is a 1934 document concerning the emigration Albert and Else Einstein.

  7. Irving Gersten testimony of the liberation of France

    Consists of a copy of a liberation testimony written by Irving Gersten. The testimony describes Gersten's experiences as a Jewish-American soldier who participated in the liberation of France while serving with the 5th United States Armored Division.

  8. List of former concentration camp prisoners buried at Wels, Austria

    Consists of a copy of a list of names of concentration camp inmates who died at Wels, Austria, mostly in May 1945, and were buried in the city cemetery there. The list provides the first and last names of the victims and, in some cases, their place and date of birth, and place and date of death.

  9. American Jewish Joint Distribution case files of Romanian orphans

    Contains 15 case histories relating to Romanian orphan children. Compiled by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee office in Bucharest, Romania, the histories contain information on deportations to Transnistria, the treatment of Jewish children in ghettos, and the care of orphans after the war. Also included are photographs of the children.

  10. "Life versus the Holocaust"

    Consists of a copy of "Life versus Holocaust," a survivor testimony by Dr. Bernard S. Cytryn concerning his experiences of persecution and loss during the Holocaust. The testimony contains information about Cytryn's relatives who were killed during the Holocaust; his family in the United States; his life in Kielce, Poland, before the Holocaust; his deportation to Auschwitz; and his observations on the role of the Catholic Church in the Holocaust.

  11. John Coulston papers

    Includes materials collected by U.S. Army Capt. John Coulston concerning the liberation of Ohrdruf and the activities of 602nd U.S. Tank Destroyer Battalion members after World War II. Also included are materials relating to reviews of Holocaust literature, survivors from Auschwitz, the life and work of Henri Abraham, and children who were survivors.

  12. Sender Wajsman papers

    Contains a copyprint of a photograph of a wedding gathering in Vilna, Lithuania, in 1936; a brief testimony by Sender Wajsman dated 1991 describing the massacre if Jews in Ponary in September 1941 at the hands of non-Jewish Lithuanians under the direction of the Gestapo; and a photocopy of a photograph depicting the memorial to the dead in Ponary.

  13. Signatures of eyewitnesses to the Gardelegen massacre

    Consists of a certified copy of a list of signatures headed "Gardelegen-April 13, 1945 U.S. Army--102nd Infantry Division in Germany." The document includes two photographs of the barn where the Gardelegen massacre occurred, one of which shows burned bodies. It is signed by a number of U.S. veterans who were eyewitnesses to the aftermath of the atrocity.

  14. Testimonies concerning the liberation of Mauthausen

    Consists of copies of various testimonies by liberators, a Holocaust survivor, and a Holocaust perpetrator concerning the Mauthausen concentration camp. Also included is a copy of the confession of Franz Ziereis, a former commander of Mauthausen, and copies of photographs of various scenes in the camp after liberation.

  15. David Ulyanitsky papers

    Contains photocopies of photographs and a personal memoir by David Ulyanitsky relating to atrocities committed against Jews in Ukraine during the first half of the 20th century.

  16. Isabel a short novel

    Photocopy of "Isabel..." written by Suzanne de Palma (Margot E. Lawson) in 1981. Drawing on the writer's experiences during World War II, the novel describes the protagonist Isabel's involvement in the Dutch resistance to Nazi occupation, her imprisonment, her romance with a man named Alfred who died in Nazi hands, and the liberation of the Netherlands.

  17. List of Roma transported from Auschwitz to Buchenwald

    Includes information on the evacuation and transport of Roma from Auschwitz to Buchenwald in 1944. Of special interest is the inclusion in the list of the name of Karl Stojka, a noted Romani artist.

  18. Organizational and administrative correspondence relating to the Wehrmacht, SS, SD, and SIPO in Ostland

    Contains photocopies of letters, memoranda, orders, directives, and various other documents relating to the organizational and operational structure of the Wehrmacht, SIPO, SS, SD, Einsatzgruppen A and B, Geheime Feldpolizei, Feldgendarmerie, Hilfspolizei, and Ordungspolizei in Latvia and the USSR. Of special interest is a copy of a letter, December 4, 1939, RSHA Amt II, concerning antisemitism and a pogrom.

  19. Isidor Fell letter

    The letter primarily regards Isidor Fell's survival of Theresienstadt, the loss of family members transported to the East, and the state of knowledge of other survivors. The letter was written at Theresienstadt shortly after his liberation on 31 May 1945.

  20. Hertha Mirabeau letter

    The collection consists of a letter written by Hertha Mirabeau (Königsberger) in Krefeld, Germany in April 1942 to her daughter. Hertha was deported to Theresienstadt several months later.
