    Consists of an autobiography by Johannes Schindler covering his life as a Jehovah's Witness after World War I, persecution and imprisonment under the Nazis, and subsequent persecution and imprisonment in East Germany.

  8. Coenraad Rood papers

    Includes photocopies of documents from the Dutch Red Cross and the International Tracing Service relating to Coenraad Rood's efforts to trace the fate of relatives who were victims of the Holocaust. Also included is a copy of "Report, 1942-1945" by Coenraad Rood. The memoir describes Rood's experiences of persecution, imprisonment, and survival during the Holocaust.     Consists of a copy of a typed manuscript entitled "Homeless in exile: days of persecution in fall and winter 1938-39." It is an English translation, prepared by Peter Loewenberg, of the original, handwritten in German by his father Harry Richard Loewenberg. The narrative begins in 1930 and includes descriptions of the Nazi rise to power in 1933, persecution of German Jews, the aftermath of Kristallnacht in which the writer went into hiding under protection of members of the Confessing Church, and the writer's flight to Britain.     Contains information about the German occupation of Lemberg (a.k.a. Lʹviv, Lwow, or Lʹvov), Poland, the establishment of the Lʹviv ghetto, and Jews involved in public work programs and industry.

  11. My life during the war

    Consists of a copy of "My life during the war" written in Polish by Bernadette Dukas (born Bronislawa Alland) from December 1945 to March 1947. The memoir was translated into English in 1989 by Dukas' brother, George Alland. The memoir describes Dukas' life in Warsaw, Poland, at the beginning of World War II, her life in hiding under an assumed identity, her experiences of forced labor in an airplane engine factory at Braunschweig, her liberation in April 1945, and her experiences of antisemitism in Poland after the Holocaust.

    Includes materials collected by U.S. Army Capt. John Coulston concerning the liberation of Ohrdruf and the activities of 602nd U.S. Tank Destroyer Battalion members after World War II. Also included are materials relating to reviews of Holocaust literature, survivors from Auschwitz, the life and work of Henri Abraham, and children who were survivors.

  19. Sender Wajsman papers

    Contains a copyprint of a photograph of a wedding gathering in Vilna, Lithuania, in 1936; a brief testimony by Sender Wajsman dated 1991 describing the massacre if Jews in Ponary in September 1941 at the hands of non-Jewish Lithuanians under the direction of the Gestapo; and a photocopy of a photograph depicting the memorial to the dead in Ponary.

  20. Signatures of eyewitnesses to the Gardelegen massacre

    Consists of a certified copy of a list of signatures headed "Gardelegen-April 13, 1945 U.S. Army--102nd Infantry Division in Germany." The document includes two photographs of the barn where the Gardelegen massacre occurred, one of which shows burned bodies. It is signed by a number of U.S. veterans who were eyewitnesses to the aftermath of the atrocity.
