Biographical History
Johannes "Hans" Schindler was born in Germany ca. 1903. He was an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses during both world wars and survived the Nazi concentration camps and the prison at Magdeburg, Germany. Schindler died on 23 Dec. 1986.

Acquisition
The original German-language version of "Biography" by Johannes Schindler was given to Annemarie Kusserow as a gift shortly before Schindler's death in Dec. 1986. A copy of the English-language version of the autobiography was initially received by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Oral History Department in Nov. 1991. It was transferred to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives the same month.

Consists of an autobiography by Johannes Schindler covering his life as a Jehovah's Witness after World War I, persecution and imprisonment under the Nazis, and subsequent persecution and imprisonment in East Germany.
