Documentation pertaining to Iosif Chelebi Levi from Burgas and members of his family, 1923-1945, including documents from the war period attesting to his having been in a labor battalion, until April 1943 Included in the documentation: - Completion certificate for a program in the Business School in Plovdiv, 12/07/1923, awarded Iosif Chelebiev (date of birth, according to the document: 02/09/1902); - Permit from the municipal administration in Burgas, in order to issue a Character Reference certificate, 27/12/1937, provided Iosif Chelebi Levi, son of Yakov Chelebi Levi and Vida Bension Konfino, born in Karnobat, Bulgaria, 05/11/1902; - Birth certificate for Robert Iosif Levi, son of Iosif Chelebi Levi and Rebeka (Amado), born in 08/07/1937, issued in Burgas, 13/07/1937; - License to become a food supplier provided by the Komissariat in Burgas; - Certificate of release from an Army labor battalion, provided Iosif Chelebi Levi by the military authorities in Burgas, 29/04/1943; - Travel permit from Burgas to Targovishte provided Iosif Chelebi Levi by the Komissariat for Jewish Affairs in Sofia, 15/07/1943; - Permit from the Jewish community in Burgas, 04/12/1944, confirming that Iosif Chelebi Levi is intending to leave the country together with his wife Rebeka, his son Shemtof and daughter Viza, and is permitted to receive a passport and an exit permit; - Certificate issued for the student, Robert Iosif Levi, by the Jewish school in Burgas, 24/06/1945; Comments by the submitter of the material: Shemtov Roberto Levi was born in Burgas in 1937. Iosif was a fur merchant in Bulgaria and Rivka worked in a factory. The family was traditional. At the outbreak of the war, Iosif ws sent to a labor camp for three years, 1940-1943. The family was supposed to be deported West to the camps and even received a call-up order, but it was stopped at the last minute. The family made aliya to Eretz Israel in 1946.
