The State Archive in Radom came into existence according to the governmental decree from February 1920, however the Archive started work a year later, in May 1921. It was located in the building of the former Radom Governorate at 53 Lubelska (later: Żeromskiego) street. The archive functioned till 1950, when it was subordinated to the Kielce Voivodship Archive as its Local Branch. In 1963 the archive was relocated to the building of former Town Hall at Rynek square. As a result of the state administration reform, in 1975 the archive was reorganized as Radom Voivodship Archive (from 1983 the State Archive in Radom). In 2013 the archive was transferred to the new building at 7 Wernera street, officially opened 25 October.

Nowadays, The State Archive in Radom works on the ground of the The Act on National Archival Records and Archives of July 14, 1983, Journal of Law, (Dziennik Ustaw) No 38, 1983.07.19 with later changes.


In 2011 the construction of the new archival building in Radom at 7 Wernera street began. In 2013 the archive was transferred to the new building.

Archival and Other Holdings

The State Archive in Radom possesses 1133 collections and archival founds, which makes 330 357 units and 3537 running meters (as for June 30, 2010). There are records of municipal and country administration (the most important collection is this category is the collection of records of the town of Radom). Among the records of the state administration the broadest is the collection of records of the Russian Radom Governorate. The German records of the Radom District from the time of Nazi occupation were in major part evacuated to Germany. The State Archive gathers also judicial documents and notaries’ files, vital records, documents from financial institutions, co-operative organizations, associations and parties, factories, schools. The Archive also stores maps and plans (about 3700 items) as well as posters.

Opening Times

The State Archive’s holdings are available in the workroom open Monday 8.30 - 18.00, Tuesday – Thursday 8.30 – 15.00 andFriday 8.30 – 13.30.

Conditions of Access

The access is regulated by Instruction No. 4 of the Head Office of State Archives in Poland, dated February 1, 2013.
