History
The "Centrale" was founded in 1920 by Nico Gunzburg, Maurice Tolkowsky and Joseph Long, under the name General Administration for Jewish Charity. The aim was first to organise, centralise and supervise the private and public welfare initiatives in Antwerp, which had been disrupted by the First World War. The organisation aimed (and still aims) for strict political and religious neutrality.
Conditions of Access
It is necessary to contact Mr. Alexander Zanzer (az@centrale.be) to visit the Centrale.
