Gruenbaum, Yizhak

Yizhak Gruenbaum was a Polish and Israeli politician and General Zionist leader. He was a member of the Polish parliament from 1919 to 1932. In the Zionist movement he belonged to the radical wing known as Al ha-Mishmar. Gruenbaum occupied important functions within the Jewish Agency i.a. as head of the Aliyah (1933-1935) and Labour (1935-1948) departments, as treasurer (1948-1950) and commissioner (1950-1951). He led the Mossad Bialik publishing house (1935-1948). Gruenbaum was the minister of the interior in the Provisional Government of the State of Israel, and was one of the co-signers of its Declaration of Independence.
