Biographical History

Abraham Silberschein was one of the major leaders of labour Zionism in Poland. He represented the movement in the Polish parliament in 1922. In 1930, Silberschein left for Geneva to work as a representative to the Zionist Congress. He stayed in Switzerland for the duration of the Second World War and established, within the framework of the World Jewish Congress, the RELICO organisation dedicated to the rescue and support of persecuted Jews in occupied Europe. For his work in RELICO, Silberschein was in contact with Jewish and non-Jewish institutions throughout the world, obtaining valuable information on German war crimes in Europe.
