    This collection contains documents of civil and criminal cases investigated by the court, as well as a registry of economic enterprises and cooperatives. The given survey included only a category of files resulting from applications to acknowledge the death of individuals submitted by other persons. They concern, almost always, people who died during the German occupation (collected from their homes by the Germans, taken away to forced labor, taken away to concentration camps, etc), who did not return home, as well as people murdered on the spot, whose death certificates had not been issued...

    Child's heavily used black patent and white leather ankle boots worn by 3 year old Judis Baehr while she was imprisoned in Theresienstadt ghetto/labor camp from 1943-1945. The already used boots were obtained by Elly Winterstein who adopted Judis at the camp. They were too big at first and had to be stuffed with newspaper and the heels and soles repaired with nails, but Judis wore them until after liberation. The boots are inscribed with the name Georg Weiss. A 7 year old child by that name arrived in the camp in 1942 and was deported to Auschwitz in October 1944. Judis was born in October ...

    Handmade, Latvian, wooden turntable with an inlaid windmill scene created in Kleinkötz Displaced Persons (DP) Camp at Günzburg in the American Zone of Germany between 1945 and 1951. Latvia had a long tradition of woodworking, and many skilled artisans lived in DP camps following the end of World War II (1939-1945), where they made some additional income from the sale of pieces and trained others. Kleinkötz had a population between 1,000 and 2,500 refugees, and a large percentage of those were from the Baltic nations, including Latvia.
