    Consists of one program for the June 6th, 1943, performance of "We Will Never Die: A National Historical Pageant Memorializing the Two Million Murdered Jews of Europe" held at Boston Garden, in Boston, MA. The program includes photographs of previous performances, of participants, including author Ben Hecht, photographs and lists of sponsors, and advertisements.

    "We will never die" script is a photocopy of a script for the play "We Will Never Die," written by Ben Hecht and performed at various locations across the United States in 1943 to raise awareness of atrocities being committed against Jews in German-occupied Europe. Handwritten annotations may be from Kurt Weill, whose name appears on the title page.

  4. "When there is life, there is hope" : Marcel Chagnac memoir

    Consists of one memoir, 24 pages, in French, entitled "When there is life, there is hope," by Marcel Chagnac, originally of Nancy, France. Mr. Chagnac was arrested in an attempt to escape to Switzerland in 1942 and was sent to Drancy. He was deported to Auschwitz in February 1943 and was quickly sent to the Goleszów (Poland) labor camp. He was forced to participate in a death march to Oranienburg and Ravensbrück, where he was liberated on May 1, 1945. Includes an English translation as well as a CD-ROM containing illustrations and photographs.

  5. "Whereabouts Unknown: Living an Artful Life in a Ruthless World"

    Consists of one screenplay, entitled "Whereabouts Unknown: Living an Artful Life in a Ruthless World" by Susan Kaim Talley and Daniel Vovak. The semi-fictional screenplay tells the story of the Kaim family. It begins with the death of Hans Kaim as he was beginning to research the whereabouts of art looted from his uncle, Emil Kaim, in Germany in the late 1930s. After Hans' death, his family carried on his search. Includes copies of documents which support the historical validity of the story.

  6. "While the World Watched"

    Consists of one audio CD entitled "While the World Watched," created by the Library of Congress as part of the Veterans History Project. On the CD, veterans describe their experiences as concentration camp liberators and as witnesses to the Nuremberg war crimes trials. The program is narrated by former United States Senator Max Cleland.

  7. "Why I Love Azaleas" manuscript

    Contains an English translation, 92 pages, of the German book entitled, "Warum Ich Azaleen Liebe" about Sister Mary Imma (Josefa) Mack, a postulant in the community of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Freising, Germany, who traveled to concentration camp Dachau between May 1944 and April 1945 to bring food supplies, medicine, and letters to the prisoners.

    Collection describes a train scene when inmates were being transported to Auschwitz.

  9. "With Only a Toothbrush"

    "With Only a Toothbrush" is a 12 page manuscript written by Jacky Erwteman in 2004. In the manuscript, Erwteman describes her family background, the family efforts to flee Amsterdam when the Germans invaded and the Dutch Royal Family fled, and their escape by boat to England, where they found employment. Includes information about Erwteman's aunt and uncle, who traveled to the United States and to Curacao, eventually working for the newly established World Bank. After the war, the family discovered that those family members who were unable to escape had been killed in Auschwitz.

  10. "Zigi's Story"

    Consists of one memoir, 10 pages, entitled "Zigi's Story," by Zygmunt (Zigi) Shipper. In his memoir, Mr. Shipper describes his childhood in Łódź, his memories of life in the Łódź ghetto, and his forced labor in a metal factory, where he worked until July 1944. He was deported to Auschwitz then to a series of camps, including Stutthof. At the end of the war, he was sent on a forced march and ended up being placed on a barge near Neustadt, witnessing the accidental British bombing of another boat also containing prisoners.   11. "Zug Bist Ahtzen"

    Consists of one typed memoir entitled "Zug Bist Ahtzen" ["Say You're Eighteen"] as told by Auschwitz survivor Gary S. Rubinstein to his grandson, Benyamin Moalem. In the memoir, Mr. Rubinstein describes the German invasion of his hometown of Wołomin, Poland. He describes being placed in a ghetto and his attempted escape to Łomża, Poland, in the fall of 1942. Almost immediately upon his arrival, the Jews of Lomza were marched to Zambrów , and, six weeks later, deported to Auschwitz.     This collection consists of transcripts of interviews conducted for the TV programme The Hidden Jews of Berlin. Also floppy disk of the same. The subjects include detailed accounts of life in hiding in Berlin during World War II; experience of capture, interrogation by Jewish collaborators and Gestapo and betrayal by Jews; Mischlinge; Fabrikation; Siemens; Rosenstrasse protest; Grosse Hamburger Strasse; life in Berlin before the war.

  15. 'Memories of Douglas: Isle of Man' by Hugo Rosenstock

    This collection consists of two items: an original illustrated account of life as an internee of an internment camp on Douglas, isle of Man, 1940-1941 and an undated typescript family history by another family member. The first item comprises a series of individual sketches of camp life mostly in verse form, which have subsequently been bound together and foliated. A contents page, though no introduction completes the volume.
