  1. Weiss family papers

    The papers consist of a list sent from Malines concentration camp by Karl Weiss, Dorothea's father, to Madame Dujardin who saved Dorothea and her sister from deportation by the Gestapo, a good conduct certificate (Führungszeugnis) issued to Berta Weiss, Dorothea's mother, a letter sent to Karl Weiss by the police in Berlin, Germany, a re-issued birth certificate, and a family wedding photograph.

  2. Testimony regarding Kristallnacht and Dachau

    Consists of one typed testimony, 10 pages, unsigned, written most likely in late 1938 or 1939, by an anonymous author, regarding the experiences of the author after being arrested on Kristallnacht and imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp. The author describes the Gestapo search of his apartment, his arrest, and gives extensive detail about life in Dachau at this time. Wendy Wallace [donor] found this testimony in the home of Miss Mundell Doolittle.

  5. Model built by the rescuer of his house where 32 Jews lived in hiding

    Model of his house built by Staszek Jackowski, a Christian man, who hid 32 Jews there for 1 1/2 years. The model lifts to expose the hiding place in the basement. Jackowski built the model for Ruth Gruber in 1967. The hiding place was built in the basement of a house which was 2 blocks away from Gestapo headquarters.

  7. Giovanni Palatucci papers

    Contains a biography of Giovanni Palatucci (1909-1944), who, as the police commissioner of Fiume, on the Italian coast, worked to ensure the safe migration of refugees, prevent the looting of Jewish homes, hid files, and supplied money to refugees attempting to escape the Gestapo. In September 1944, he was arrested and sent to Dachau, where he perished. He was named Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem. Includes a certificate honoring Palatucci and the typed testimony of Goty Bauer of Milan, Italy, regarding his experiences with Palatucci.

  8. Rudolf Heilborn postcards from Buchenwald

    Contains two postcards written by Rudolf Heilborn from Buchenwald to Ruth Heilborn in Gleiwitz, Germany, in November and December of 1938. Rudolf Heilborn was among the Jews of Gleiwitz who were arrested by the Gestapo during Kristallnacht then deported to Buchenwald.

  14. Morris family collection

    Contains Danielle Alix Morris's personal memoir and a photocopy of her mother's arrestrecord. Danielle Alix Morris's memoir describes her move closer to the Swiss border after Germany annexed Alsace and hiding in the countryside of France. This collection also includes excerpts from her mother's memoir which describe Gestapo interrogation, experiences in Drancy, deportations to Auschwitz, and her father's escape to Switzerland.

    The collection consists of two photographs of Maximilian Grabner, the director of the Gestapo at Auschwitz concentration camp, in the custody of armed guards.

  16. "Studenternes Efterretnigstjeneste"

    Contains copies of a newspaper entitled "Studenternes Efterretningstjeneste," with information about the arrests of members of the Danish population by the Gestapo. Studenternes Efterretningstjeneste (SE) was an underground resistance organization in Denmark.

    Lyon, French collaborators imprisoned at Fort du Montluc, a military prison formerly run by Gestapo. Conversing at tables, delivering food to prisoners, playing cards. "Krankenrevier": older French men, sick and infirm. Some are named in French narration.

  18. Franz Beaufaÿs anti-Nazi poetry

    Consists of one book, 44 pages, entitled "Franz Beaufaÿs, 1897-1961." The book consists of a collection of wartime and post-war poetry written by Franz Beaufaÿs in which he expresses his anger and disgust toward the Nazi regime, believing that the Nazis had co-opted the formerly proud German culture. Poems include "Buchenwald," "Politische Konferenz," and "Gestapo."

  19. Photographs of Nuremberg Atrocities

    Consists of 24 photographs of atrocities supposedly committed by Gestapo in and around Nuremberg, Germany, 1944-1945. Includes photographs of corpses of German soldiers and civilians. Some photographs are described, and some were apparently taken by the Nuremberg Criminal Police in 1944.
