  1. Dachau liberation collection

    Consists of six photographs of corpses taken after the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. The photographs, one of which depicts a victim with a detached prosthetic leg, are described on the verso. Also includes a letter dated 29 June 1945 from an American soldier to his family enclosing the Dachau photographs. The American soldier, unnamed, is depicted in the seventh photograph.

  2. Goldschmeid and Burstyn families collection

    Documents, correspondence and photographs illustrating the experiences of Imré and Borbala Wirth Goldschmeid and their daughter Veronika Goldschmeid. Included are pre-war images and documents such as birth certificates and report cards for Imré and Borbala, and post-war documents concerning Veronika, Borbala, and Borbala's mother Julianna who were together in Budapest until 1944 at which time Vera was placed with the Red Cross, and Borbala and sister Margit were deported to Bergen Belsen where they survived.   3. RCAF 39th Reconnaissance wing photographs

    Consists of photographs taken after the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp; of the destruction of ships near Lübeck, including corpses washed ashore; of destruction in Hamburg; and of members of the Royal Canadian Airforce's 39th Reconnaissance wing. The liberation photographs include images of the burial of corpses, of SS women behind barbed wire, and of a female survivor in the Belsen hospital. Also includes a card listing sleeping quarters assignment on a troop ship.

    The Hermansdörfer family papers consist of correspondence relating to the efforts of Jennie Hermansdörfer Bieber and her daughters Sophie Acker and Dorothy Nomberg to bring the Hermansdörfer family from Łąka, Poland (Luka, Ukraine) to the United States before the Holocaust. Correspondence includes letters of support from Adra Day, Elise Gilman, and Philip Acker to the American Consulate in Warsaw; a letter from Leon Hermansdörfer to the Acker family; a rejection letter from the Consulate; and a postwar letter from a cousin in Poland indicating that none of the Hermansdörfer family survived ...

    Consists of one memoir, 12 pages, entitled "Looking Back, But Not in Anger: The Story of One who Eluded the Holocaust by the Skin of his Teeth," by Herbert P. Paisley, originally of Berlin, Germany. In the memoir, he describes his childhood in Germany, schooling in Belgium, imprisonment in St. Cyprien and Gurs, joining the French Foreign Legion and later the British Pioneer Corps, where he worked as an interpreter.

    The Jacob Mincer papers consist of correspondence and identification papers documenting Mincer’s efforts to emigrate from Europe before and after the Holocaust and the efforts of his uncle, Issy Mincer, to help him from South Africa.     This collection contains documents relating to the Westerbork Jewish transit camp between 1942-1945, including are reports, maps and some photos as well as pre-war correspondence, and post-war court proceedings.   9. "As I Recall"

    Consists of one memoir, approximately 60 pages, entitled "As I Recall," written in 2009 by Albert Erlebacher, originally of Karlsruhe, Germany. In the memoir, he describes his childhood in Germany, deportation in 1940 to Gurs, transfer to Rivesaltes, and being removed from the camps by the OSE. He describes life in the Villa Mariana and Chateau de Chabannes OSE homes, crossing the Swiss border on foot, and his life in Switzerland. Also includes information on his post-war emigration to the United States and later educational, personal, and professional experiences.

    Consists of letters, dated August-September 1935, related to the efforts of Leslie Nichols of Cleveland, OH, to assist in the emigration of Dr. Walter Jaffe (who was half Jewish) and his wife, Sylvia Lavalle (who was not Jewish), of Berlin, Germany. Includes instructions on how to proceed, blank visa paperwork, a letter from Leslie Nichols to Judge Maurice Bernon of Cleveland asking for his assistance; and a letter from Leslie Nichols to Sylvia Lavalle informing her of his efforts on her behalf. The couple eventually survived the war in Paris.
