  1. Zalcberg family collection

    Consists of documents and photographs relating to the post-war experiences of Morris, Regina, and Chana Zalcberg. This includes emigration documentation from the Feldafing Displaced Persons camp, a photograph of the family, and six audiotapes of the oral testimony of Morris Zalcberg, recorded in 1981, who was in the Polish army before the war.

  5. Zalman Lubocki memoir

    The memoir of Zalman Lubocki of Kaunas, Lithuania is his eyewitness account of the German invasion in June 1941, life in the Kovno (Kaunas) ghetto, imprisonment at Stutthof, hard labor, liberation, and his arrival as a displaced person at Landsberg, Germany. The collection is comprised of the original copy of the 100 page memoir written in Yiddish in 1945 when Zalman was living in a displaced persons camp in Landsberg am Lech, Germany.

    The collection includes an envelope and letter sent to Liby Kaplan in Slonim, Poland (present day Belarus) from her family in New Jersey in August 1939 and a letter and envelope from Liby Kaplan to her family in New Jersey postmarked August 17, 1939. The collection also includes two photographic postcards of Liby Kaplan and her husband.

    Contains photographs of the Zarembski, Ferst, Kostansk, and Wierzbicki families. Some of these materials may be combined into a single collection in the future.

  9. Zarnicer family collection

    Document issued on behalf of Esther Zarnicer [donor’s maternal grandmother], living in Camp de Gurs [Ilôt L Baraque 14], granting permission for her daughter, Ruth, to be removed from Camp de Gurs for the purpose of immigration to the United States of America. Dated 21 November 1941 and signed by “Ester” and stamped by the camp director. Includes a photograph of Ruth’s parents, Esther and Robert Zarnicer [who died in 1932]. Ruth and her her brother Hugo were placed in the Chabannes children's home before later going into hiding under false names. Esther was deported and killed.

    This collection contains printed matter relating to the Holocaust in the Independent State of Croatia (sic), including regulations prohibiting Jews to appear in public places, the obligation for Jews to wear the Star of David on the left sleeve of their clothing, the registration of Jewish property, the movement of Jews into ghettos, the prohibition of sexual relations between Jews and non-Jews, and the like.
