    Contains a Belgian identity card for Anna Hoffman. Anna Hoffman was born on March 2, 1891 in Cernauti, Ukraine, and was arrested by the Gestapo in Brussels, Belgium, on March 3, 1943. She was sent to the Malines transit camp and deported by the 20th convoy to Auschwitz where she was gassed on arrival.

  2. Lilka Elbaum papers

    The papers consist of 325 photographs and copyprints as well as certificates and identification cards from the ghetto in Biała Rawska, Poland, and Skierniewice, Poland.

  3. Eta Chinkes photograph collection

  5. Morris family collection

    Contains Danielle Alix Morris's personal memoir and a photocopy of her mother's arrestrecord. Danielle Alix Morris's memoir describes her move closer to the Swiss border after Germany annexed Alsace and hiding in the countryside of France. This collection also includes excerpts from her mother's memoir which describe Gestapo interrogation, experiences in Drancy, deportations to Auschwitz, and her father's escape to Switzerland.

  6. Giovanni Palatucci papers

    Contains a biography of Giovanni Palatucci (1909-1944), who, as the police commissioner of Fiume, on the Italian coast, worked to ensure the safe migration of refugees, prevent the looting of Jewish homes, hid files, and supplied money to refugees attempting to escape the Gestapo. In September 1944, he was arrested and sent to Dachau, where he perished. He was named Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem. Includes a certificate honoring Palatucci and the typed testimony of Goty Bauer of Milan, Italy, regarding his experiences with Palatucci.

  7. Ida Gebel, Wilhelm Wensing, Else Wensing, and Klara Ditschi papers

    Consists of copies of documents relating to the experiences of Ida Gebel, Wilhelm Wensing, Else Wensing, and Klara Ditschi, all Jehovah's Witnesses, before, during, and after the Holocaust.

  8. Affidavit concerning the heroism of Céline Demarez Morali

    Consists of a copy of a French affidavit describing the heroism of Céline Berte Morali, who was responsible for the rescue of several Jews by hiding them in the basement of her hardware store in Paris.

  9. "Mathias Barz: 30.8.1895 Düsseldorf - 19.10.1982 Margarten"

    Consists of a copy of the book "Mathias Barz: 30.8.1895 Düsseldorf-19.10.1982 Margarten" by Günter Goebbels. The book contains biographical information on Barz, his family history, his experiences as an artist during the Holocaust, and information concerning his art exhibitions. Newspaper articles concerning the artist are intermingled with the text of the book.

  10. "Soldiers Without Weapons" excerpt

    Consists of an excerpt from the book by Sophia Binkiene, which is comprised of testimony by Dr. F. Gurviciene concerning the rescue of her daughter during the Holocaust by Dr. Ona Landsbergiene, the mother of the future democratically elected president of Lithuania, Vytautas Landsbergis.

  11. Rudolf Heilborn postcards from Buchenwald

    Contains two postcards written by Rudolf Heilborn from Buchenwald to Ruth Heilborn in Gleiwitz, Germany, in November and December of 1938. Rudolf Heilborn was among the Jews of Gleiwitz who were arrested by the Gestapo during Kristallnacht then deported to Buchenwald.

    1. Hans Benjamin Marx collection

    The collection documents the Holocaust-era experiences of Hans Benjamin Marx and his family, including their pre-war lives in Mannheim and Frankfurt am Main, Hans's experiences in the Theresienstadt concentration camp, and his immigration to the United States aboard the SS Marine Flasher in 1946. The collection consists of an annotated album assembled by Hans with photographs, a small amount of family correspondence (includes donor-provided translations), identity documents, and Hans's SS Marine Flasher ticket.

    Kulisiewicz recalls that a local tragedy sparked the creation of "Heil, Sachsenhausen." The event took place in July 1943 in the Sachsenhausen subcamp of Oranienburg, where Hans Zahn, director of the camp motor pool, and his 15-year-old daughter Eliza were arrested for forwarding letters from a Polish prisoner.
