United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Mark Schmidek

The papers were donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2022 by Mark Schmidek.

Scope and Content

The papers consist of documents, black-and-white photographs, postcards, correspondence, identity documents, a passport, English translations, and newspaper clippings documenting the experiences of Julie Schlamme, Thekla Schlamme Schmidek, and Norbert Schmidek as they left Germany, moved through Western Europe, and immigrated to the United States in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The materials also document members of the extended Schlamme and Schmidek families. The majority of the papers were organized to convey the immigration stories of Julie, Thekla, and Norbert, and the word processed, English translations are associated with the original materials they represent.
