The collection documents the Holocaust-era experiences of Ernest Steen (born Ernst Levistein), originally of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, including his employment in Frankfurt, immigration to the United States in 1940, and service during World War II in the United States Army. Included are a small number of personal and biographical papers, clippings, newsletters, songs and poems, and military papers. Army patch belonging to Ernest Steen. Ernst Levistein (July 15, 1911 - April 28, 1987) was born in Frankfurt, Germany and came to the United States, arriving May 23, 1940. He served in the US Army as a Ritchie Boy. His name was changed to Ernest Steen on July 20, 1943 by decree of the Court as part of US naturalization.
