Utenos apskrities archyvas

Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Utenos apskrities archyvas (Utena County Archives), Lithuania. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in February 2017 and accretion in May 2018. This is a joint project USHMM and Yad Vashem.

Scope and Content

Records of various county agencies (State Notary, County Executive Council, People's Court etc.) related to the restitution and inheritance of the individual and communal Jewish property located in the Utena County after World War II.

System of Arrangement

Arranged in ten series: 1. Inheritance cases, 1945-1949; 2. Inheritance and death recognition cases, 1945-1951; 3. Zarasai town, Executive Committee: Minutes of the meetings and registers of the Jewish land plots, 1923-1948; 4. Utena People’s Court, 1945-1949: Civil cases, property rights and death recognition cases; 5. Utena People’s Court, 1946-1952: Criminal cases; 6. Troškūnai district, Executive Committee, 1952: Crimes against government property; 7. Anykščiai district, Executive Committee ,1949: Minutes; 8. Zarasai district, Executive Committee, 1944-1945: Correspondence with parishes' executive committees and papers related to religion, confiscated property, etc.; 9. Smalvos Parish (Zarasai district), Executive Committee, 1944: Registers of religious property (Jewish synagogue); 10. Utena district, Executive Committee, 1946-1950: Committee decisions and correspondence relating to religious matters. Note: Digital files organized in numerical order of Fond.
