Acquisition

Source of acquisition is theTelšių apskrities archyvas (Telšiai County Archives), Lithuania. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in February 2017. This is a joint project USHMM and Yad Vashem.

Scope and Content

Records of various county agencies (State Notary, County Executive Council, People's Court etc) related to the restitution and inheritance of individual and communal Jewish property located in the Telsiai County after World War II, includes sales contracts, wills, sales records and personal documentation of Jewish residents trying to re-establish ownership over their property and/or inheritance rights.

System of Arrangement

Arranged in five series: 1. State Notary Office of Plungė district, 1946-1957: Sales contracts, inheritance certificates, and resolutions and decisions of civil cases; 2. People Court of Telšiai district-Second Instance, 1946-1956: Resolutions and decisions of civil cases, establishment of the rights of inheritance; 3. State Notary Office of Mažeikiai district, 1946-1947: Sale contracts and testaments; 4. People Court of Mažeikiai district, 1945-1947: Resolutions and decisions of civil cases; 5. People Court of Seda, 1946-1951: Resolutions and decisions of civil cases; 6. State Notary Office of Telšiai district, 1945-1946: Certificate of inheritance and sales contracts; 7.
