Acquisition

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum by Howard Zar in 2001 and 2002.

Scope and Content

Consists of documents relating to Rose and Mayer Zar's (formerly Szoszana and Mayer Zarnowiecki), the donor's parents' residence in different DP camps in Germany and two suits that were handmade for the Zars in a DP camp. The documents include inoculation certificates; registration cards; a birth certificate of their first son Awiron Zarnowiecki, born on 9 Aug.1948, his death certificate indicating that the little boy drowned on 29 May 1951, reparations payment certificates, and announcements. The collection includes accretions. Some of these materials may be combined into a single collection in the future.
