Acquisition

The American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors organized and conducted the interviews with Holocaust survivors during the American Gathering conference in Washington, D. C., in Apr. 1983. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Oral History branch received the tapes of the interviews and summary notes from the American Gathering in 1989. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the collection by transfer from the Oral History branch in Feb. 1995.

Scope and Content

Contains oral history interviews with 157 Holocaust survivors recorded during the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Washington, D.C., in Apr. 1983. The interviews contain information about persecution, life in the ghettos and concentration camps, and concentration camp liberation during World War II.
