Archival History

Vojenský historický ústav v Praze

Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, Israel. Advancing Soviet military units captured the German files and eventually transferred them to the Czechoslovakian Ministry of Defense. They are now housed in the archives of the Vojenský historický ústav (Military Historical Institute), Prague, Czech Republic. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in 1995.

Scope and Content

Contains several different types of records, including finding aids for the records of numerous German units (e.g., SS-Artillerie Ersatz-Regiment, München; SS-Artillerie Ausbildungs- und Ersatz-Regiment, Prag), held by the Czech Military Historical Institute. Included are individual documents from various files, such as monthly reports and faxes, German personnel reassignment name lists (Veränderungsmeldungen), and brief Czech-language outline descriptions of various camps.
