Biographical History
Julius Hüttner was born on 1 April 1881 and died in 1970. Hüttner was the consul general of Costa Rica in Gothenburg, as well as a the accountant of the Gothenburg section of the Swedish Red Cross and was a member of several executive boards, including the board of the Jewish Community of Gothenburg. During World War II Hüttner was one of the leaders in the Swedish relief work for Jewish refugees during the Nazi era and survivors after the Holocaust.
Archival History
The records were preserved by the Jewish Community of Gothenburg and were transferred to the Regional Archive in Gothenburg in 1980.
Scope and Content
This collection mainly contains official correspondence between Julius Hüttner and individuals he had contact with as consul general of Costa Rica in Gothenburg. The correspondence comprises typewritten loose papers, mostly in Swedish and Spanish. A few of the letters are in English. The documents are originals, copies, transcripts, and translations of finished letters written in Swedish or Spanish. There are English and Swedish translations of some but not all of the letters in Spanish. All of the dated documents are from between 1941 and 1959. The records without dates are also related to Hüttner’s work with the Swedish Red Cross.
