Scope and Content

Op 16 mei 1945, een ruime week na de capitulatie van de Duitse bezettingsmacht, verscheen in de voormalige verzetskrant Trouw, speciale uitgave voor Alkmaar en omstreken een opmerkelijke annonce van de toenmalige stadsarchivaris Th.P.M. Wortel. In dit bericht onder het kopje "WIE HELPT MEE?" verzocht Wortel bewaard gebleven illegale bladen, bulletins, circulaires en pamfletten uit de oorlogsjaren aan het gemeentearchief te willen afstaan. Hoe groot de responce is geweest, is niet meer na te gaan. Feit is wel dat met dit slagvaardig optreden een fundament is gelegd voor wat thans te boek staat als de collectie Oorlogsdocumentatie. De collectie is opgedeeld in een gedeelte over de oorlog in Nederland en een gedeelte over de oorlog in Alkmaar en omgeving.
