Interrogation of Waldemar Hoven on charges of conducting medical experiments in Buchenwald Waldemar Hoven was born in Freiburg, Germany, 10 February 1903; visit by Hoven to Denmark, Sweden, the United States and France, 1919-1933, return to Freiburg, 1933; completion of high school studies followed by attendance at the Universities of Freiburg and Munich; joins the SS, 1934; conclusion of medical studies, 1939; Work as a physician for the SS, rising to the rank of Hauptsturmführer in the Waffen SS; participation by Hoven in the conduction of medical experiments involving typhus and the tolerance of serum containing phenol, leading to the deaths of many inmates; involvement in Nazi euthanasia programs during which people considered "useless eaters" (people with disabilities who couldn't contribute to society) were murdered, along with Jews considered unfit for labor; Arrest of Hoven by the Nazis, 1943, accused of giving a lethal injection of phenol to an SS officer, a potential witness in an investigation against Ilse Koch with whom Hoven was rumoured to be having an affair; conviction and sentencing to death; release due to the Nazi shortage of doctors, March 1945; Arrest of Hoven by the Allies following World War II; on trial as a defendant at the Doctors' Trial (a part of the larger Nuremberg Trials); being found guilty of war crimes, crimes against humanity and membership in a criminal organization; given death sentence and hanged at Landsberg prison, Bavaria, 02 June 1948.
