Collection of Erich August Paul Puttkammer, regarding Sperrstempels (exemptions) for Jews in the Netherlands, 1942-1953 Erich August Paul Puttkammer was born in Poland in 1891; he received Dutch citizenship in 1939 and worked as a lawyer in a bank in Amsterdam during the war; using his contacts with the Devisenschutzkommando, along with the use of gold, diamonds, paintings and jewelry, he obtained deportation exemptions for Jews, of whom most were already in Westerbork camp as inmates; Puttkammer was arrested after the war, but was released due to lack of evidence; Included in the collection: Documents regarding attempts by Jews from the Netherlands to obtain an exemption from deportation, and intervention by E. A. Puttkammer regarding the matter; the "120,000 Stamp", 1942-1944; notes with the names of Jews from the Netherlands who handed over jewelry in an attempt to obtain an exemption from deportation, 1943-1953; appeals to E. A. P. Puttkammer by Jews in the Netherlands, in order that their property will not be confiscated, and correspondence after the end of the war regarding compensation for confiscated Jewish property, 1943-1953.
