Announcements to the population issued by Rumkowski in the Lodz Ghetto: Announcement Number 252, dated 21 April 1941 regarding a clean-up campaign by the ghetto residents, a warning to the residents not to steal lavatories and garbage cans and a prohibition on trading in wood The purpose of the campaign is to prevent disease and epidemics; it will concentrate mainly on the lavatories and garbage cans; due to the many thefts of wood, residents are warned not to steal lavatories and garbage cans; stealing lavatories and garbage cans can lead to an intolerable health situation; therefore whoever is caught stealing wood will be severely punished. As of 23 April 1941, trading in wood is prohibited; private sales of wood may be done through the Wood Department only.
