Marjem, who was born 12 December 1897, arrived in Austria at the age of 15; Josef was born 15 June 1897. Miriam and Josef met in Austria, and lived in Vienna until 1939, the year they sent their children beyond the boundaries of the Nazi occupation. Some of their children were sent to England with the Kindertransport, and some arrived in Eretz Israel. Josef and Marjem were unsuccessful in their attempt to make aliya to Eretz Israel illegally; they were caught and sent to Mauritius, where they remained for the duration of the war until 1945, when they make aliya to Eretz Israel.
