Exhibition of books banned during the Nazi period, organized in Vienna by the Viennese Jewish community, 20 April-30 June, 1979 Organized by the Viennese Jewish community in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry for Science and Art, "Buecherverbrennung (Book Burning)" is an exhibition of books banned by the Nazis; the exhibition is devoted to those books which were destroyed because their contents did not suit the Nazi ideology. It is also in memory of and in honor of the authors who were ostracized and some of whom were exiled to concentration camps, or emigrated of their own free will or even committed suicide; in preparation for the exhibition a graphic booklet was published including the names of the banned authors whose works were forbidden; cultural activities accompanied the exhibit. Dr. Rudolf Kirschenschlaeger, the President of Austria at the time of the exhibition, and notable people from the academic world contributed dedications to the Introduction of the booklet.
