Two certificates from 1943 and 1945 regarding the fact that Zhan Albert Kazes from Plovdiv contracted malaria during the war while serving in a Jewish labor battalion, and regarding assistance given to partisans - Certificate issued in Belitsa regarding the service of Zhan Albert Kazes in a Jewish labor battalion in 1943, and his contracting malaria during his service, 15 November 1943; - Certificate issued in Plovdiv regarding assistance given by Zhan Albert Kazes from Plovdiv to partisans during the war and concerning the deportation of family members to Poland where they were murdered in a camp by the Germans, 17 October 1945. Notes from Benyamin Algaranty who submitted the material: The Kazes family moved from Greece to Bulgaria in 1922; during the war, they moved from Sofia to Plovdiv; Albert and Allegra Kazes were the parents of two sons: Zhan, born in 1920, and Jacques, born in 1923. Both young men were drafted as auxilliary personnel, and served in a labor battalion from 1942-1944; they would return on leave to Plovdiv in the winter and in the summer.
