Testimony of Cipe (Todes) Melamed, born in Joniskelis, Lithuania, 1912, regarding her experiences in Joniskelis, the Pasvalys Ghetto and in hiding in the Birzai district Life in Joniskelis before the war. German occupation; restrictions on the Jews; abuse of Jews by Lithuanians led by Juozas Brazinskas and Juozas Jurgaitis; "Aktion" against the men, concentration of the Jews in one street; looting of Jewish owned property; deportation to the Pasvalys Ghetto, 19 August 1941; ghetto life; deportation of Jews to a ghetto from the villages Sabanas, Papile, Salociai, Vabalninkas and Jewish men from Birzai; murder of men in the Zadeikeliai forest, 26 August 1941; murder of Jews, 26-27 August 1941; escape from the killing pit; in hiding in villages from the Birzi district; hidden by the farmer Antonas Banelis; liberation by the Red Army, August 1944.
