Documentation of the I. G. Farbenindustrie Company from the Osoby Archive in Moscow, 1928-1943 The I. G. Farbenindustrie Company was established in 1925 from the amalgamation of several chemical industry companies, and it was, in its time, the largest company in this field in the west. During World War II it was notorious due to its involvement in the Nazi oppression and murder process, and mainly due to the production and supply of the gas Zyklon B which was used for mass murders in Auschwitz, and for the establishment of the Buna factory for synthetic fuel as part of the Auschwitz camps complex where camp inmates were employed. At the end of the war, the Allies ordered that the company be dismantled. - In the beginning of the collection there is a series of files that include lists prepared by the Wi-Rue Amt (Wehrwirtschaftts- und Reustungsamt [War Economy and Armament Office]) beim OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (German Armed Forces High Command) of the numbers of files taken away that pertain to the industrial and construction system related to the army and the Ministry of Defense in France, arranged by subject. Next, there are files containing reports dealing with economic and population matters of the various sides in the war or of countries and areas of Europe. It appears as if this material was prepared by an institute or some research branch; - Files dealing with the dismantling of the I. G. Farbenindustrie factories in Auschwitz: the files contain correspondence (also in Russian) of the Abwicklungsstelle (Dismantling Office) in Leuna (East Germany), of local and area authorities in East Germany and of supervisory officers from the Soviet Union. Included in the material is information regarding raw materials transported to the Soviet Union as "reparation". The files cover 1945-1948 (Scan 202 and following); - Files containing balance sheets and production reports from the Ammoniakwerk Merseburg factory from the late 1920s and the 1930s (Scan 348 and following); - Files containing balance sheets and documents of factories (among them Dr. Alexander Wacker - Gesellschaft fuer elektrochemische Industrie, Muenchen) and various companies (Scan 909 and following): - File of correspondence of I. G. Farbenindustrie and its sub companies regarding production matters and supplies of Reinigungsanlagen (purification systems) for the military and German authorities in eastern Europe, 1942-1943 (Scans 1057-1272).
