Biographical History

After the adoption of Acts No. 134 and 135/1867 (Association and Assembly Act), the associations were subject to the supervision of the Pilsen District Office, later to the Pilsen Police Directorate and the NB Pilsen District Headquarters, which became part of the National Committee. After 1949, a Unified National Committee was established, where the supervisory authority was the 3rd Department - Association Department, later National Committee of the City of Pilsen - Department of Internal Affairs. The associations sent to the supervisory body the statutes, changes, reports on officials and on all events except for the Board meetings. (The file of the B’nai B’rith Lodge, liquidated during the Protectorate, also contains interrogations of their officials.) Most of the associations ceased to exist by 1956 under Act No. 68/1951.

Archival History

The documents were originally stored in the registry of the District Office, later at the succeeding supervisory authorities. The Archives of the City of Pilsen took over this agenda gradually, most of it by January 1958. The files of individual associations were put into folders. A card register was used for orientation. It was sorted into several groups according to names (associations, unions, clubs) and contained the basic information about individual associations and call numbers.

System of Arrangement

The fonds contains a register agenda of associations. In the early 1960s, the Archives of the City of Pilsen organized the fonds and made a partial inventory. The original system of orientation in the files according to call numbers was retained, but to facilitate the searches, a register was made, divided into 20 groups and further into subgroups. Furthermore, a local register was made, too. In these, the associations are listed alphabetically, the files being marked with inventory numbers.
