Biographical History
Židovské osídlení je v Prostějově doloženo již od 15. století, k velkému početnímu nárůstu došlo ve 2. polovině 17. století. Zdejší židovská obec, jedna z nejpočetnějších a nejvýznamnějších na Moravě, existovala až do 2. světové války. Po válce byla obnovena, v r. 1960 byla připojena jako tzv. synagogální sbor nejprve k ŽNO Olomouc, později součástí ŽNO Brno.
Acquisition
Archiválie se dostaly do židovského muzea v Praze za druhé světové války v rámci svozů historicky cenných předmětů a písemností zrušených židovských náboženských obcí Čech a Moravy.
Scope and Content
Kromě několika starších jednotlivin jsou zde zachovány písemnosti od poloviny 19. století do počátku 40. let 20. století. Fond obsahuje stanovy ŽNO, včetně změn (1894, 1920 – 1925), podací protokoly, zápisy ze schůzí, volební spisy, personální spisy, matriční agendu, domovské listy, živnostenské záležitosti, trestní záležitosti, vojenské záležitosti, správu domovního majetku, stavební záležitosti, včetně stavby synagogy, finanční agendu, nadace, knihy hazkarot, písemnosti pohřebního bratrstva, opisy náhrobních nápisů, zlomky písemného materiálu různých židovských spolků a institucí a rozsáhlý soubor knih a spisů židovské školy. Součástí fondu jsou spisy z let 1941 – 1942, zachycující perzekuci židovského obyvatelstva. Jsou zde uložena různá nařízení a příkazy. Materiál poskytuje údaje k registraci Židů, sociální péči o členy obce, pracovnímu nasazení, evidenci a odvádění židovského majetku. Dále jsou zde zachována cestovní povolení a propustky a agenda související s vystěhovalectvím.

Biographical History
Jewish settlement in Prostějov is documented from the 15th century. This settlement was greatly expanded in the second half of the 17th century. The local Jewish community was one of the largest and most important in Moravia, existing until the Nazi occupation. It was re-established after the Second World War, becoming a synagogue congregation in 1960 (initially as part of the Jewish Religious Community of Olomouc, later as part of the Jewish Religious Community of Brno).
Acquisition
The documents were taken to the Jewish Museum as part of the wartime shipment of artefacts and documents from Jewish Religious Communities liquidated during the WWII.
Scope and Content
In addition to several older individual items, this fonds contains documents from the mid-19th century to the early 1940s. It also contains the community's statutes including amendments (1894, 1920–1925), protocol registers, meeting minutes, election records, personnel records, registry files, certificates of domicile, business records, criminal files, military files, property management files, construction records (including for the construction of a synagogue), financial files, charity foundation records, books of hazkarat, burial society records, copies of epitaphs, fragments of documents relating to various Jewish associations and institutions, and a large collection of books and documents relating to the local Jewish school. The fonds also contains documents from 1941–1942 relating to the persecution of the Jewish population. There are also various regulations and orders, as well as materials that provide information on the registration of Jews, social welfare for community members, work assignments, and the registration and surrendering of Jewish property. In addition, there are travel permits and passes, as well as emigration files.
