History
The archive was established in Moscow in 1936 and changed its name several times. Since 1992 it is called the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
In 1941 following the German invasion onto Soviet Union, the archive was evacuated to the town of Buzuluk in Orenburg Oblast. In 1943 it was moved to Podolsk were it is located until today.

The archive contains documents relating to all of the activities of Soviet and Russian armed forces from 1941 to the present.

Service and personal records of the officers of Soviet and Russian army. from the years 1941 until the present.

Personnel records of military administration bodies, formations, units and other organizations of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation;

Records of people sentenced by military courts
