History

The Nuremberg City Archives were founded in 1864. Since 1957 the Stadtarchiv and the Stadtbibliothek Nürnberg resided in the Pellerhaus in Nuremberg. In 2000 the Archives were relocated to the Norishalle on Marientorgraben.

Archival and Other Holdings

The holdings of the Nuremberg State Archives are organized into six "Bestandsgruppen:" A: Sammlungen und Selekte, B: Amtliche Provenienzen der reichsstädtischen Zeit, C: Amtliche Provenienzen der bayerischen Zeit, D: Stiftungen und Stiftungsverwaltungen, E: Dokumentationsgut privater Provenienz, F: Sekundärquellen, Ersatz- und Ergänzungsüberlieferung. Searches in the online collections overview indicate the presence of relevant documents from the Nazi period.

Use of the Archives for research purposes is open to the public. Inquiries (post or email) are recommended prior to one's visit. 21 workplaces are available in the reading room.
