    “Save Human Lives” poster stamp used on an envelope sent in March 1944 to Edwin Howe Halsted, Jr. in Ohio, from his aunt, Mrs. Donald Budd Armstrong, in New York. It has an image of two distressed looking children: a young girl and a boy with side curls and yarmulke with Star of David armbands. These stamps were sold by the Emergency Committee to Save the Jewish People of Europe, in order to raise money to stop the genocide of Jews in Europe and to raise awareness that those most at risk were children and the elderly. The collection includes correspondence, dated 1937-1942, sent between the Salpeter family in Germany and Poland, and Klara Salpeter, who had immigrated to the United States in 1938. Photographs of the Salpeter family include candid and studio portraits of Oskar Salpeter, Brunhilde Salpeter, Klara Salpeter, Rieka Salpeter, Dorothea Salpeter, and Charlotte Salpeter. All members of the Salpeter family, except Klara Salpeter, perished in the Holocaust.

    2 Reichsmark coupon issued at Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. Buchenwald opened on July 19, 1937, and issued undated notes in 0.5, 1, 2, and 3 mark denominations. The simply designed notes were printed on coarse paper. There were two types of coupons: canteen scrip and exchange scrip issued to members of outside labor brigades [Aussenkommandos.] In early April 1945, as US forces approached Buchenwald concentration camp, the German guards began to evacuate the camp.
