    The collection consists of a picture of Dr. Gyula Hevey who was the priest at the St. Teresa of Avila church during WWII; Gyula Hevey (worked 1935-1952) was active in trying to supply baptismal certificates to Jews in 1944 as well as earlier during the war and a sign posted in St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Budapest to notify people that conversions will no longer be offered.

    Contains materials compiled by Ernest Kaufman during and after his experiences in the Holocaust. Some of these materials may be combined into a single collection in the future.

  5. Horia Stamatu collection

    The collection consists of correspondence, documents, manuscripts, and other materials related to the life and career of the donor's father, Horia Stamatu (1912-1989), the Romanian poet and essayist, and onetime member of the Iron Guard. Most of the materials document Stamatu’s career as a writer, poet, and philosopher living in Freiburg, Germany, from the late 1950s through the 1980s.

    German flag with a swastika flag with a price tag found by a US Army soldier in an abandoned department store in Germany near the end of World War II in May 1945. The price tag was for the Kaufhof Department Store, part of a Jewish owned chain of stores founded by Leonard Tietz, whose family had pioneered the department store concept in Germany in the 1880s. The stores were Aryanized in 1933 when the Nazi government forced the family to sell their shares at a reduced value to non-Jewish government approved buyers.

  17. Theresienstadt ghetto-labor camp scrip, 20 kronen note

    Scrip, valued at 20 kronen, issued in the Theresienstadt (Terezin) ghetto-labor camp in 1943. All currency was confiscated from deportees upon entry and replaced with scrip and ration coupons that could be exchanged only in the camp. The Theresienstadt camp existed for 3.5 years, from November 24, 1941 to May 9, 1945. It was located in a region of Czechoslovakia occupied by Germany, renamed the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and made part of the Greater German Reich.

    Consists of a one-page typewritten letter sent by Dr. Fruma Broude (b. 1899, Fruma Broude Gurevich or Gurvich) from Kovno (Kaunas, Lithuania) in which she explains what happened, who was killed, children who were placed in hiding that she was trying to locate, how she survived, and what their needs are. Also includes a blank envelope with the return address for Dr. M.J. Kardon (donor's father) in Philadelphia.
