    Contains a notebook of Torah novaelle, 32 pages, written by a student of the Mir yeshiva, who was exiled to Shanghai, China during World War II; dated February 18, 1943 to December 20, 1945. Includes a novaelle on various topics connected to the weekly Torah portion; a "dictionary" leaf of useful terms for exiles to Shanghai translated from Yiddish to English; and a list of students including Pinchas Hirschprong, Moshe Mendelbaum, Avraham Eiger, Anshil Weinhaus and others.

  7. Bernard Block photograph collection

    The Bernard Block photograph collection documents the Buchenwald and Ohrdruf concentration camps immediately following liberation. Images depict burial of victims, mass graves, and general scenes of the camps. The collection contains twenty photographs mounted with tape onto loose photo album pages, some with captions handwritten across the top in blue ink. The collection also includes an image of Major Bernard Block, DDS in his military uniform.

    The Sirkis family papers include records and photographs documenting Theodor and Frida Sirkis and their relatives in Moldova and Kazakhstan during the Holocaust. Documents include Theodore Sirkis’ Iasi student identification card, records documenting the evacuation of members of the Sirkis family to Salsk (Rostov oblast) and Tyulkubas (Kazakh SSR) in 1941, and a letter Frida composed but never mailed to the NKVD demanding justice for her mother and brother. Five photographs depict members of the Sirkis and Gore families and Theodore Sirkis with medical staff in an identified location.

    Consists of letters, dated between August 21, 1939 and March 14, 1940, from family members Paul, Herman, and Clara, to Martha, who had escaped from Czechoslovakia to Palestine with her family. In the letters, the family (likely siblings) inform Martha of their imprisonment, fears, and the increasing German persecution, as well as their inability to escape. Clara, who was Martha's sister, sent her letters from St. Nazaire, France, and while Herman and Paul's letters do not include a location, Herman was likely writing from Prague, while Paul was imprisoned in an unnamed camp.     Contains a copy of regulations of the Nazi General Government in the German zone of occupation, Krakow: "Verordnungsblatt für das Generalgouvernement", Nr 51, 20 June 1941. Among the subjects covered include a unification of the zones of occupation; an order given to the [Jewish?] communities of occupied Poland to move to Krakow, and that the city of Krakow will confiscate the property of these communities.
