  2. Theresienstadt ghetto-labor camp scrip, 1 krone note

    Scrip, valued at 1 krone, issued in the Theresienstadt (Terezin) ghetto-labor camp in 1943. All currency was confiscated from deportees upon entry and replaced with scrip and ration coupons that could be exchanged only in the camp. The Theresienstadt camp existed for 3.5 years, from November 24, 1941 to May 9, 1945. It was located in a region of Czechoslovakia occupied by Germany, renamed the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and made part of the Greater German Reich.

    Session 26. Witness Adolph Avraham Berman testifies. Dr. Berman talks about the numbers of children in Warsaw. The Judges ask him questions. He says that there was help for Jews from the Polish underground, especially for the children.     Portrait drawing created in displaced persons camp in Germany of Samuel and Lola Gotlieb who married in the Dabrowa Ghetto.They survived in the Holocaust, returned to their town of Dabrowa and then moved to Germany.     The collection consist of a knife, documents, a journal, and photographs relating to the experiences of Esther and Helen Mermelstein, sisters, before and during the Holocaust when they were deported from Cinadievo, Czechoslovakia, to Munkacs Ghetto, and then to a series of concentration camps until liberated in Bergen Belsen and after the Holocaust in Karlstad, Sweden.

    Children's book, Der Struwwelpeter, read by 11year old Beatrice (Trixie) Westheimer when she was a hidden child in German occupied Belgium. It was originally written in 1945 and is a series of illustrated rhymes that tell fables about the unfortunate consequences that befall ill-behaved children. Trixie and her family fled Germany in 1939, joining relatives in Belgium. In May 1940, Germany occupied Belgium and in July 1942, the family went into hiding.
