  1. Blue, white and yellow Jewish Relief Unit Star of David badge worn by a German Jewish nurse

    JRU [Jewish Relief Unit] Star of David shaped pin worn by 26 year old Alice Redlich while working as a nurse at Bergen Belsen displaced persons camp. The British Army liberated Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on April 15, 1945, and it then became a DP camp. Alice had left Germany in 1938 to study nursing in Great Britain. She volunteered with the Jewish Committee for Relief Abroad and, in September 1946, arrived with Team 110 in Bergen-Belsen. She cared for infants, children and young women, and taught hygiene.   2. Blueprint copies for Buchenwald

    Includes three copies of the blueprint plans for Buchenwald concentration camp. Also included is a report by the Sixth Service Command describing conditions in Buchenwald in 1944. This report contains testimony by Henry Glass, a prisoner of Buchenwald for approximately four months, from September 1938 to January 1939. The report describes the physical layout of the camp, its administration, methods of torture practiced in the camp, and the colored markings used to identify the prisoners.

    Contains correspondence received by Margot Manuel in New York from her relatives in Germany. The majority of the letters were written by her parents, Leopoldine and Hermann Manuel, as well as brother Alfons and Siegfried. Leopoldine and Hermann Manuel, as well as Siegfried, did not survive the Holocaust.

    Contains documents, correspondence, and photographs relating to the Blum family from Berlin. Richard Blum, a high fashion tailor, was arrested on Kristallnacht and imprisoned in Sachsenhausen. Includes an example of Richard's business cards; Betty Blum's German passport; various identification documents related to immigration efforts; and photographs taken aboard the MS St. Louis. Richard and Betty left Germany on the MS St. Louis in May 1939 and disembarked in Belgium when the ship returned to Europe.
