  1. Memoirs and diaries from the Holocaust period collected by the Central Jewish Committee in Poland

    Memoirs and diaries submitted to the Jewish Historical Insitute in Warsaw and catalogued in Records Group 302. In the collection there is a great variety of diaries and memoirs regarding the Holocaust in Poland, Nazi Germany and other countries. Most of the documentation is in Polish; some of the material is in Yiddish and other languages.

    The collection consists of approximately 7,200 testimonies collected by the Centralna Żydowska Komisja Historyczna (Central Jewish Historical Committee) in Poland during its active years, 1944-1947. After the establishment of the ZIH (Jewish Historical Institute) the documentation was transferred to the ZIH Archives, and catalogued as Records Group 301.     The Record Group contains documentation gathered from state, regional and local archives in Germany. In the documentation there is much information regarding the persecution of the Jews on the local level, including deportations, as well as information regarding life in the Jewish communities, Jewish property and sometimes, lists of local Jews.

    This Record Group is the private archive of the director-actor Fritz Wisten, who was one of the organization activists. The documentation that arrived at Yad Vashem consists of photocopies of the original documentation in the archive, which is housed at the Stiftung Akademie der Kuenste Archive in Berlin.   10. Documentation regarding the Holocaust from provincial archives in Switzerland, 1930-1950

    The documentation is composed mainly of material received by Yad Vashem from the archives of cantons and Jewish communities in Switzerland. Documentation received from the Federal Archive of Switzerland and the State Archive of Lichtenstein is also included in the Record Group. There is also material from various institutions that dealt with Jewish refugees in Switzerland, personal files of thousands of Jewish refugees who escaped to Switzerland as well as the files of Jewish refugees who were deported from Switzerland across the border (especially in the area of Geneva).

    In the Record Group there is documentation from national, district and local archives in Austria. There is much information in the Record Group regarding the persecution of the Jews by the federal and local authorities and activities of institutions that persecuted the Jews.
