    Edgar André was arrested on the day of the last election in Germany, March 5th, 1933. He was put in solitary confinement after being severely beaten. A short summary of his life is given, describing his social and political work among the poor, first as a socialist and from 1922 onwards as a communist. With the rise of the Nazi movement, he became a serious opponent who was under constant threat.     The pamphlet is the last writing of Prof. Dr. Titus Brandsma by “Order of the Gestapo” in the Scheveningen prison on January 22nd, 1942. Brandsma was an outspoken critic of the Nazis even before the war. He was imprisoned in Dachau and executed by lethal injection. In 2002 Brandsma was canonized by Pope Francis.

    The booklet asks the question “Wohin” (Where to?) by Max Sievers with observations on the progress of the war after seven months of fighting. The feeling that it has not yet fully started and therefore will last for a long time is prevalent. Sievers analyzes the failures of Western countries (Finland). The entry of the United States in an eventual alliance is hoped for and the role of the Soviet Union and Italy in the progress of the war will most likely become more active.     The pamphlet provides facts and conclusions about the situation in Germany with a special focus on its finances. Since 1933 the rules and laws for an open budget are suspended. Germany has become a police state where the stronger (Gestapo and the Party) rule. A sermon by Pastor Niemöller from June 27th, 1937 is included. The emigrants are defended against the vile accusations of Goebbels and his propaganda machine. The secret speech of Himmler to officers in 1938 about the 4th front is analyzed and the question is asked if Germany will be able to morally withstand war against a liberal West.

    The publication which is based on the novel “The good soldier Svejk” by Jaroslav Hasek ironically criticizes the German occupation of the protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. Svejk is arrested in a pub while discussing the botched attempt on Hitler’s life in Munich with the innkeeper. He is transferred to Petschek castle and interrogated by the Gestapo. He behaves in typical "Svejk" manner to expose the lunacy of his surroundings.

    The account by Walther Hensel describes his arrest and internment in various prisons on trumped up charges during the years 1937-1939. He describes in harrowing detail the humiliations and abuse one had to endure by the hands of the Gestapo, but also acts of kindness by regular prison guards. With the help of a committed lawyer, he managed to be released early.

    The typewritten report by pastor Harald Sandbaek describes the efforts of Danish clergy to resist the Nazi occupation. He was a well-known resistance fighter who was responsible for acts of sabotage,then captured and tortured by the Gestapo.     The file contains the verdict of Wenzel Hendrich (born on 26 November 1907 in Franzendorf), Marie Hendrich (born on 12 December 1911 in Doerfel) and Wanda Moucka (born on 13 September 1911 in Prague). On 31 December 1943 two Jewish prisoners (Weisl and Liebl) were able to break out of the Gestapo prison in Prague.
