  4. Werner Jakubowski papers

    The Werner Jakubowski papers primarily consist of correspondence between Werner Jakubowski while he was a refugee in France and his brother Stephan Jakubowski in New York City. Werner’s letters are from Gurs or from Meillon par Assat, in the Basses Pyrenees. The correspondence describes Werner’s family situation in France and documents efforts by family and friends to transfer funds to them from New York and to aid their immigration to the US.

  5. Meinhardi, Strahl, and Stolze families papers

    Documents, correspondence, and photographs associated with the experiences of the extended Meinhardi family (families Strahl and Stolze) under National Socialism and in postwar Germany. Also includes material related to the Meinhardi family, formerly of Germany, who immigrated to the United States at the end of the 19th century. The Meinhardis continued to correspond to their relatives in Engish throughout the period and received first hand accounts of life in Nazi Germany into the immediate postwar years.

    Files of the headquarters of World ORT Union in Geneva, which signed an agreement in 1981 with the Central Archives to deposit the material in Jerusalem. The collection includes minutes, organization statuses, correspondence, bank statements, reports and plans, published journals, bulletins, pamphlets, printed booklets, photographs, video materials, and press clippings, and various materials related to emigration, education, welfare, administration of the Jewish communities on international scale.

    Selected records related to evacuation of the civilian population to Shimkent region in Kazakhstan during WWII. It includes information about resettlement, employment, provision of food supplies and medical assistance to the evacuees by the local Soviet and Communist Party authorities. The collection also includes various lists of evacuees who arrived in Shimkent region in 1941-1942 as well as statistical reports and correspondence files.

  8. Ruth Gellis photographs

    Pre-war photographs depict Ruth Gellis (born Ruth Wuhl) and her parents, Joel and Clara Wuhl, before they fled Germany and were later forced into hiding in France. The photographs also document Ruth and her friends she met while in France, including Clara Meletz.

    The collection consists of family letters written to George Rosenberg after he fled his family home in Offenbach am Main, Germany to Brussels, Belgium on a Kindertransport in 1938, where he lived with relatives in the Orbach family. The letters include one photocopy of a letter to George from his parents Emil and Fanny Rosenberg and sister Liesel Rosenberg in 1938. The other correspondence consists of letters and postcards to George and the Orbachs from his parents and sister Ruth in Offenbach, 1941-1942 before they were deported and killed at the Treblinka extermination camp in 1942.     The Erika Behr and Rudolf Faller collection consists of documents relating to Behr family in pre-war Germany and their immigration to the United States. Documents relating to Bernhard Behr and Fanny Behr include a photograph of Bernhard Behr’s birth certificate, 1874; Fanny Levin’s birth certificate, January 19, 1884; their marriage certificate, February 27, 1908; and a death certificate of Bernhard Behr, March 8, 1933.   12. Collection of the Union Général des Israélites de France (UGIF) (22 P 3065-3078)

    Consits of an alphabetical card file listing names of Jews deported from France.. The collection was reconstituted from dispersed documents in individual name files used to support claims in the SHD Archives in Caen. Originally, it was a card file transmitted to the French Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs after WW II to provide information on deported Jewish victims.
