  1. Kurt Weiser collection

    Collection of documents, photograph albums, and correspondence related to Kurt Weiser's experiences during World War II. Born in 1922 in the Czech Republic, Kurt was raised in Chorzow, Poland and deported or forced to flee to Siberia and further east into the Soviet Union. After the war, Kurt settled and worked in the New Ulm displaced persons camp, and eventually immigrated to Buffalo, NY.

    Three postcards, sent from family members and acquaintances living in Auschwitz (Oświęcim) Poland, to Natan Huppert, living in Lwow, Soviet-occupied Poland, and later in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia, 1940-1941. Two of the postcards, from February and March 1940, were sent to Huppert in Lwow from his father, Heinrich Huppert, the latter of whom was living in Auschwitz.   8. Hand-made wooden souvenir letter opener

    Painted wood souvenir letter opener given to Lavan Robinson. One side is engraved, "Souvenir from your boys" and the other is engraved, "Post Theatre Dachau 1946. The handle of the letter opener is a four-leaf clover.

  9. Ludwig Hiss collection

    The collection documents the post-war experiences of Ludwig Hiss of Borysław, Poland in the Zeilsheim displaced persons camp; other DP camps in Linz, Austria; and the Bellfaire orphanage in Cleveland, Ohio. Documents include a civilian transportation pass from Linz; a newspaper clipping describing Ludwig’s story; and two writings of Ludwig describing his experiences during and after the war.   11. Sali Friedler photograph collection

    Contains four vintage photographs and two copy prints illustrating the pre-war life of Sali Friedler (donor's husband) and his immediate family in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Sali, born in 1930, was sent on Kindertransport to Glasgow, Scotland in 1939 with his older brother Leo. Their parents, Charlotte and Bernhard, were deported to Riga, Latvia and Auschwitz-Birkenau respectively. Charlotte was deported from Riga to the Stuthoff concentration camp and was liberated in March 1945. She was eventually reunited with her sons in the 1950s in the UK.

  12. Harold Oram collection

    Collection illustrating the direct mail campaign efforts for the organization Citizens Committee on Displaced Persons. Harold Oram created direct mail fundraising for the Committee. Collection consists of several examples of the fund raising and public relations pieces that were sent by the Committee to not only garner support for displaced persons who remained in camps in Europe awaiting emigration, but to raise funds under the signature of Earl G. Harrison and William S. Bernard (secretary of the committee).

  15. Captain Stuart Cosgriff, MD collection

    Contains correspondence written by Dr. Cosgriff to his mother and a friend/fellow doctor which document his experiences in the Buchenwald concentration camp in the days immediately following liberation, his visit of Ebensee and other locations. Also includes photographs taken by Dr. Cosgriff during his visit to the concentration camps at Buchenwald and Wels, and a Russian POW camp at Nurnberg; dated April - May 1945; in English. Dr. Cosgriff was in charge of the medical setup in Buchenwald after liberation.

    Constitution, meeting agenda, press releases, statements, memoranda, and similar documents, from the General Jewish Council (New York, NY), relating to its efforts to raise public awareness of the threats of Nazism and antisemitism, and to mobilize individuals and organizations in the United States to combat antisemitism, 1938-1942.
