  1. Erwin Berkowitz papers

    Papers relating to Ervin/Erwin Berkowitz who was one of the 50 children rescued from Vienna in 1939 through the efforts of Gilbert and Eleanor Kraus. Includes a birth certificate, passport of Ernestine Berkowitz (Erwin's mother), passport and U.S. identification, copy of Honorable Discharge, and wedding photograph with Erwin and Marcella Kertzner and photograph of Ernestine with her granddaughter Michelle, circa 1954.

  2. Erwin Froman collection

    Consists of pre-war photographs of the Freimowitz family, originally of Romania, pre-war postcards sent by Ferenz Freimowitz (donor's father) to the donor's brother in the United States in May 1940, and post-war identification paperwork and affidavits for Eisik Freimowitz (now Erwin Froman). Also includes certificates, letters, and newspaper clippings related to Mr. Froman's work sharing the story of his Holocaust experiences.

  3. Erwin Haber papers

    The Erwin Haber papers consist of correspondence written by Erwin Haber, brother of Kitty Goldberg, written in August 1942. The correspondence relates the experiences of Erwin Haber and include a letter he threw from a train as we was being deported from Malines (Mechelen), Belgium, in August 1942. The letter was found by a stranger and mailed to his family.

  4. Erwin Hirsch and Martel Sommer collection

    Consists of documents, photographs, and a CD of music related to the pre-war, wartime, and post-war experiences of Erwin Hirsch, originally of Strasbourg, France. Includes pre-war photographs of Mr. Hirsch in Mannheim, Germany, and articles and tributes related to his work as a cantor, both in the Mannheim synagogue from 1937 until Kristallnacht, and at Congregation Habonim in New York City from 1940-1983, as well as an audio CD entitled "Erwin Hirsch: A Voice Not Forgotten," of Hirsch's music.   6. Erwin Markowitz postcard

    According to Erwin Markowitz, his mother, father, and sister wrote the postcard and mailed it from Nagyberezna, Hungary, in April 1944. He received it while he was a prisoner in a compulsory labor camp called Ujverbas in Transylvania. According to a translation from the Hungarian provided by Mr. Markowitz, the card reads (on one side), "Last time do I write to you. We travel we don't know where. God wanted that way. We say goodbye to you, lots of kisses Sister Sadie"; on other side, "Many Kisses Your Mother followed by illegible translated word" and "Same greetings kisses your father."

  10. Erwin Schwager collection

    Original negatives taken by Erwin Schwager (donor's father). Collection consists of 2,297 Leica photographic 35 millimeter and larger negatives primarily taken from 1932-1938, prior to Erwin's immigration to the United States. Some rolls document life around Munich, Czechoslovakia and Italy. Other rolls were shot while traveling throughout other countries in Europe and the Middle East. In October 1938, Erwin immigrated to the United States. His parents Leopold and Sabine were deported from Munich to either Riga or the 9th Fort.

    Documents and photographs illustrating the experiences of Erwin Stern, born in Rechnitz, Germany and later of Vienna until 1939, when he and his sister Theresa were sent to France and hidden in the Château du Masgelier children's home. They came to the United States in June 1941 through a transport organized by the United States Committee for the Care of European Children. Includes documentaiton compiled in preparation for that journey, such as an affidavit in lieu of passport.

  14. Ery Magasanik collection

    Consists of US naturalization certificates, identification documents such as Iranian passports and "Shenasnameh," or Iranian identity booklets similar to birth certificates, for the donors' parents, Michael (b. 1900) and Judith Magasanik (nee Bromberg, b. 1908) who left Bucharest in 1940 using the Iranian passports they obtained in the late 1920s as citizens of Iran. They eventually immigrated to the Miami and then settled in New York in 1942.

    Print reproduction of a sketch, from a set of fifteen, depicting a prisoner being shot for trying to escape when a Kapo actually knocked him out of a line of prisoners moving along the perimeter fence at Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp in France, and published in 1946.
