    The letter, amongst other things, describes the systematic murder carried out by the Wehrmacht in Poland, and in particular the murder of civilians by the author's unit. The author also mentions the murder of a number of their own officers by the rank and file.

  4. Various eyewitness accounts

    This miscellaneous collection of eyewitness accounts, detailing anti-Semitic persecution by the nazis probably form part of the several hundred testimonies gathered in the mid- 1950s by the Wiener Library, most of which now belong in the Wiener Library 'P Series'. In fact the first item (1267/1) is an account signed 'Li. Z.' of this project, dated 14 May 1956. It is possible that the reason why the accounts in this collection were never included in the 'P Series' is that so many of them are incomplete and/ or without author.

    This set of manuscript war-time diaries from an Austrian Jewish refugee provide a unique insight into a refugee's life and his interpretation of national events. A number of enclosures were found loose within the diaries. These have been catalogued separately [1277/16] with a note of their place of origin. Hollitscher begins his English diaries by remembering his last days in Vienna, but soon turns to a discussion of the political news of the day.     This is the copy of a school book which was originally the property of the depositor, a pupil in a school in Cologne, 1933-1934. The contents of the book were dictated by the teacher and consist of notes on the racial characteristics of the various ethnic groups which comprise the German people, also notes on the theory of racial hygiene.

    The papers in this collection consist primarily of copy documents from the Nuremberg State Archives and relate to the trial of former SA men who were guilty of aggravated breach of the peace on Kristallnacht in Nuremberg. The papers were used for the making of a BBC TV documentary series German History, 1919-1945. The papers provide a detailed insight into the crimes committed against the Jewish population of Nuremberg on Kristallnacht (9-10 November 1938).
